Here at SoCal, we have set a minimum hour requirement of 1 hour per week for ranks Moderator through to Senior Administrator. This means moderators are expected to spend at least 1 hour each week actively monitoring the server, responding to reports or issues, and helping to maintain a safe and enjoyable community.

Trial moderators have a higher requirement while on trial: they must complete 2 hours per week during their trial period in order to be eligible for promotion at the end of their trial.

To help manage shifts and ensure moderators are able to fulfill their minimum hour requirement, the SoCal community uses Melonly. Melonly is responsible for managing shifts, tracking hours, and administering punishments to moderators as needed. With the help of Melonly, moderators can easily manage their schedules and fulfill their duties.

In order to maintain an active and engaged moderation team, SoCal has implemented an inactivity policy. If a moderator fails to meet the minimum hour requirement for one week, they will receive an inactivity notice. If they receive a second inactivity notice within a specified timeframe, they may be terminated from their position. Inactivity notices expire after 2 weeks, meaning moderators who return to their duties after a period of inactivity will not be penalized for their previous absence. This policy helps ensure the moderation team remains active while allowing some flexibility for personal circumstances.
